Since 2016,general secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out many times that the foundation of the peaceful development of cross-strait relations is at the grassroots level and hopes for youth.cross-strait exchanges and cooperation should be guided by the realization of the spiritual integration of compatriots.Taiwan's youth are not only the backbone of Taiwan's future economic and social development, but also the focusof cross-strait relations. At the same time, great changes have taken place in the media industry in the new era.Consequently, the relevance between media usage and political participation has also changed. And with the active political participation of Taiwan's youth, what is the relationship between the media use and political participation of Taiwan's youth? This study analyzes the correlation between media usage and the three political participation behaviors of "community citizen participation"," voting behavior" and " citizen movement participation" from six communication methods at the two levels of "traditional media" and " new media".This study selected the final report of the results report of the auxiliary special research program from Taiwan's science and technology department. The implementation time is from October 1,2014 to September 30,2016.the survey comes from the collation of the latest data.Because the sample came from the entire island of Taiwan. This study specifically selected the age level of 18-35 years old to analyze the political participation behavior and media usage habits of Taiwan youth in the latest period. And through cross-comparison analysis, explore the relevance between media usage and political participation. The study found that:(1)In terms of new media, apart from the fact that online news and social media have no significant relevance to voting behavior, online news and social media both have direct relevance to community citizen participation and citizen movement participation behavior.(2)In traditional media, newspaper reading and magazine reading have the same influence on political participation. They are all significantly related to community citizen participation but not to voting behavior and citizen movement participation behavior.Radio is most relevant to political participation.Because there is no significant correlation between voting behavior and other two ways of political participation.Besides watching TV,which has certain relevance to the behavior of citizen movement participation,it has little relevance to the behavior of community citizen participation and voting.Based on the inspiration of this study for future policies:(1)It should also continue to broaden the channels of communication and innovative ways of communication between young people on both sides of the strait and deepen the in-depth exchange between young people in mainland and Taiwan.(2)Use the new media platform to encourage the society to create more attractive and public opinion-oriented products;(3)We cannot ignore the continuous role of traditional media. We must rely on excellent TV,radio, magazine and other works to convey positive social values.
