With the rapid aging of China’s population and the evolution of the microscopic family structure, the living arrangements between the elderly and children have changed the traditional mode of family care for the elderly.Adult children living together with the elderly have always thought that they are considered to be examples of old-styled support. However, with the development and progress of society, changes in the way of life of the elderly have long occurred and living together with children does not necessarily enable the elderly to live well. This paper uses a two-wave panel data of The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)in 2013 and 2015 to analyze the difference in living quality of different living arrangements and elderly people using Probit and fixed effect models. This article finds that the elderly and children live together cannot improve the life satisfaction of the elderly, but will increase the degree of depression in the elderly. The separation of the elderly and children living in urban areas but not a long distance away is conducive to the improvement of well-being.Different living patterns have a significant impact on the health of the urban elderly and the elderly. It is shown that sharing with children can be beneficial to the health of the elderly. In summary, the results suggest that the ideal living pattern between generations is that parents and children live separately, and that the best living distance between parents and children is to live in the same county or city.
