| Participation in public affairs is an important indicator to measure community building and residents’ autonomy.According to the long-term observation,the level of participation in public affairs is generally low in urban and rural China now.So it’s particularly important to explore the factors that affect the enthusiasm and effectiveness of residents’ participation in public affairs.In Patnam’s opinion,trust,civil society is essential parts of social capital,what’s more,the participation of residents in social organizations and the formation of normative and reciprocal cooperation network are prerequisites and basic characteristics of citizen participation.However,there exists a big difference between social organizations in China and western societies.Under the unique Chinese institution,culture,and organization,whether organizational involvement in community public affairs have its own effects and function mechanism? Based on the social capital theory,this paper discusses the effects and mechanism of organizational involvement in community public affairs participation in China.According to the data from Chinese General Social Survey in 2012,this paper uses Logistic regression to make an analysis,and the main conclusions are as follows:(1)Organizational involvement has a positive impact on participation in community public affairs,that is,participating in social groups,both cross-cutting and vertical can promote the participation of community public affairs.(2)Public spirit and political efficacy have positive impact on the participation of community public affairs,that is,the residents with more public spirit and political efficacy are more likely to participate in community public affairs.(3)The organizational involvement affect the participation of community public affair through public spirit and political efficacy.On the one hand,participating in cross-cutting social organizations cultivates the public spirit of its members,such as cooperation,dedication,and responsibility consciousness.These public spirit can promote residents’ participation in community public affairs.Therefore,the public spirit is the mediator variable between them.On the other hand,Participating in vertical social organizations can strengthen the political efficacy of the residents,and thus promoting community participation in public affairs.Therefore,the political efficacy is the mediator variable between them.In all,this paper finds that cross-cutting organizational involvement affects the participation of community public affairs through public spirit.While vertical organizational involvement affects the participation of community public affairs through the political efficacy.In addition,it’s a pity that the variable design and influence factors are relatively simple due to the limitations of measure methods and data,this causes the lack of detailed analysis on some variables and comprehensive explanation about the results. |
