Comment On The Socialism Thought And Practice Of British Theorist Cole

Cole was a brilliant man of wide learning.His works were numerous and involving various aspects such as politics,economy,education,philosophy,history and society.Therefore,he also integrated multiple identities of politician,economist,teacher,philosopher,historian,journalist,and so on.The political career of Cole has been ups and downs and can be roughly divided into two phases.The previous political career was dominated by the Guild Socialist Movement,advocating the management of social production by Guild and realizing industry self-government by reconciling the contradictions between labor and capitalist,which represented the more radical socialist ideology in Britain at the beginning of the 20 th century.In the later political career of Cole,due to the failure of the Guild Movement,he returned to the Fabian Society.His theory has also shrunk relatively,even with great compromise.Since then,Cole has followed the old Fabian socialist line and succeeded the leadership of Webb,and became the leader of the second-generation of Fabian Society.Cole also tried to update the old Fabian Socialism theory,in order toaffect the internal decision-making of the Labor Party and provided political development strategy for the Labor Party.Therefore,his later political career showed obvious compromise and penetration.This article tries to analyze the socialist ideas and practices of Cole,and elaborates that the efforts of him in leading the Fabian society and influencing the decision-making of the Labour Party,as well as the contribution he made in raising the living standard of the majority of the people in British.Finally l will make an objective assessment of the historical position about Cole in the process of British socialist development.
