A Yi Villager's History Of The Healing Of "Two Solutions Of God And Medicine"

"Two solutions of God and medicine" is a folk concept in Yi society,which is the result of Yi people fighting against disease and death,it includes the supernatural medical system and the natural medical system.As a medical resource and healing system,it covers the witchcraft treatment,the Yi traditional medicine and the western modern medicine and is a main lifestyle of the everyday life in Yi areas.Also it reflects the cultural process in the modernization of Yi society and acts as a cultural strategy and mechanism between the modern cultures and Yi traditional cultures,which encodes the modern foreign cultures into the Yi traditional cultures and finishes the process of the “localization of modernity”.In the paper,I taked a long time's tracing and investigation to record my father's illness,healing,anxiety and relieving from the view of " the insider" and " the outsider",so that represent a Yi person's adjustment and anxiety when encountered the life's vicissitudes and death or disease,and describe the cultural cognition and choice of people in the context of the Yi traditional witchcraft,the Yi medicine and the modern medical system coexisting.In the process of modernization,the localization strategy and cultural process of the "Modernity" of the Yi society is discussed.At the same time,this article also discuss the cultural function of "Two solutions of God and medicine" when meet needs of "cultural complexity" in Yi areas.The chapter one mainly introduces the medical background and practice of the "Two solutions of God and medicine" in the Yi society.It includes the supernatural medical system and the natural medical system,it is based on the deep spiritual belief and social cultural situation of the Yi people.In addition,I carried out an in-depth interview and recorded a famous "two solutions of God and medicine" therapist's story to explain the universality and typical character of multiple medical systems in Yi society.The chapter two is mainly about the record and description of father's healing process.My father expericed a lot of healing systems including the witchcraft healing,Yi traditional medicine and the modern medical healing and all of which do not cure because of the limitations of the “God”and “medicine”.Finally my father is anxious and "two solutions of God and medicine" becomes a new factor of anxiety.The third chapter analyzes the possibility and resons of the "two solutions of God and medicine".The special geographical environment and social history give an important basis for the generation and coexistence of the Yi People's "two solutions" treatment syste,and the integration of cultures is the second reson to form the mixed systems.Also,this part discusses the witchcraft anxiety,the modern medical anxiety and the bi-directional character of the Yi medicine.Generally speaking,the "two solutions" treatment system is the strategy of the Yi traditional culture to the modern scientific culture.It is the result of the observation and influence of the thought of witchcraft on modern medical knowledge in the Yi ethnic group area,and embodies the process of "localization of modernity" by the Yi people to the modern medical knowledge according to their social needs.It is a "compound culture" which combines traditional and modern cultures,witchcraft and science,Yi and Han culture factors.The process of "two solutions" is not only the process of eliminating anxiety and alleviating the pain,but also the process of cultural healing and "soul soothing" to the patients,family and society.
