The Study Of Engels’s Urban Critical Theory

The transformation and development of modern economic and social structure will inevitably bring about continuous and in-depth urbanization.The modern city construction faces many problems and challenges:such as population expansion,traffic congestion,resource shortage,environmental pollution and the differentiation and isolation between social strata,and a large number of social contradictions and urban problems in the area of urban space demarcation.These problems not only highlight the internal contradictions of modern urban development,but also reflect the imbalance between urban and human,city and nature,city and science and technology.How to curb the negative trend of the modern urban planning and construction,overcome the dual nature of urbanization to promote the healthy development of the new era cities,has increasingly become an important issue faced by the current urban planning and urban management.In order to improve the living conditions of modern cities and make more urban people realize the positive and valuable experience of urban life,it is urgent to reunderstand the essence of the city and deal with the various modernity problems in the process of urban development.As a cognitive achievement of the essential attributes of modern cities,Engels’ s urban critical theory provides a scientific value standpoint and analytical method for the study of the problem of urban development in the new period.The in-depth study of Engels’ s urban critical theory will not only help to expand the theoretical research of Marx’s theory,but also help to construct the scientific concept of the development of Chinese cities in the new period,provide theoretical basis for the urbanization construction of contemporary China,and guide the city construction and space production in the new period of China.This paper,based on the study of Engels’ s "the condition of the working class of Britain",is guided by the theory and methods of historical materialism,and makes an essential analysis of Engels’ s urban critical theory.This paper focuses on Engel’s critical standpoint on the dialectical materialism of the city,analyzes Engels’ s main theoretical views on the nature of the city and the relationship between city and human,and on this basis discusses the contemporary value of Engels’ s critical theory of city and its guiding significance to the construction of urbanization in the new period of China.
