Social Work Intervention On The Safety And Protection Of Left Behind Chiidren In Rural Areas

With the acceleration of economic development and urbanization in China,large number of rural left-behind children have emerged in China.In recent years,rural left-behind children have experienced frequent safety accidents,such as drowning,electric shocks,drinking pesticides,being abducted,and being lured into rape.The main reasons causing the accidents above have been the lack of awareness of children’s self-safety,lack of education for protection of family safety,lack of safety protection courses in schools,and weak child protection forces in the surrounding environment.The issue of protecting the security of rural stay-at-home children is not only related to their own healthy growth,but also related to the overall health and economic development of China’s population.This article carries out a deep analysis of safety and protection conditions of M community of Xiushui County,Jiangxi Province,combined with policy documents,reports of social organization projects,and other related issues by using a combination of qualitative research and quantitative research methods to conduct field research on this district,and by adopting methods of literature,interviews,and questionnaires.The study found that there are looming dangers in left-behind children in the community,such as dining,electricity using,fire using,and transportation,like eating raw fruits and vegetables,climbing electric poles,using lighters at random,and riding bicycles without holding the armrests.Based on professional theories such as social support theory,social learning theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory,this article involves the intervention of the rural community’s left-behind children’s safety protection through case work and group work.Afterwards,this paper explores solutions to the problems by social work involvement from the government,family,school,and community levels.Finally,I hope that through this study,we can give certain suggestions to Jiangxi Province and even the country on the social work involved in the protection of rural left-behind children.
