Discourse Strategies Of Youth Network Political Expression From The Perspective Of Multimodal Discourse

The online society encourages young people to express political appeals and participate in political actions through diversified and individualized approaches.They have used new discourse in their political expressions,such as the use of meme in the event of"Emperor Bar invading FB".These novel speech prompters need to interpret it with more targeted discourse analysis methods.Multimodal discourse analysis is such a research method.It is based on the analysis of traditional discourse and uses textual utterances and images.Non-textual discourses such as audio,video,and music are included in the discourse analysis system.From the perspective of discourse integration,the symbolic systems and discourse meanings constructed by different modalities are analyzed.In this paper,the case of "Emperor Bar invading FB" is used as a case study.Through multi-modal discourse analysis on the expressions of young Chinese netizens,we try to answer the following four research questions:For the discourse of mainland young netizens in the "Emperor Bar invading FB" campaign,what kinds of multi-modality features exist and what kind of discourse strategies are used for multimodality?What kind of interactive relationship between different modal utterances?How did the young people construct the entire " Emperor Bar invading FB" through the use of multimodal discourse?This paper finds that in the event of "Emperor Bar invading FB",the discourses used by young Chinese netizens highlighted novel forms of discourse,such as "meme" and"template discourse",covering single modal discourse,dual modal discourse and Multi-modal utterances and other types of multi-modal features.According to the different styles and themes of each type of multimodal discourse,young netizens creatively developed a variety of corresponding discourse strategies to convey multimodal discourse meaning,emotion,and recognition to the Internet users as objects of discourse.Finally,through these discourse strategies,a grand ritual belonging to young people was constructed:It was based on the imaginary community,located in a battlefield where aliens could not freely travel.Occupation,discipline,resistance,and carnival coexist.
