Analysis Of Family Views In Engels’ "Family,private Ownership And The Origins Of The State"

Family relationship is the main object of the study of historical materialism.Prior to the creation of "The Origins of Family,Private Ownership,and the State",Marx and Engels discussed relevant content of family relations in other works.But due to the lack of historical archaeological data on human evolution and ancient social periods at that time.All these arguments are partial and not comprehensive,until Engels elaborates on family relations in The Origin,and systematically studies the nature and development laws of the family for the first time.This article takes Engels’ concept of family as the starting point in the "origin",and elaborates systematically and comprehensively the characteristics of family forms and their progressive significance under different stages of human development.First of all,this paper expounds the main contents of Morgan’s"Ancient Society" and its research results,and discusses in detail the important influence of Morgan’s research on Engels’ family concept.In the same way,this article summarizes the main content and research results of Bahoefen’s "Theory of Mother’s Rights" and the important influence on Engels when he discusses the clan family.Then he discusses the main content of McLennan’s "primitive marriage" and its research results,and Engels’ criticism of its defects.Engels critically inherited the research results of these three books and added more materials to discuss issues that they have not yet studied in depth.Second,according to Morgan’s staging method,this article tries to comprehensively expound the history of human family development.This paper begins with the three most important stages in the history of human society development,ancient society,class society,and socialist society.It thoroughly analyzes the changes and development of family forms and their positive significance in these three stages.Finally,this article attempts to summarize the nature of the family in Origin.
