With the rapid development of information technology,online teaching is changing the traditional face-to-face teaching mode.It breaks through the time and space constraints,and provides students with a different way of learning.It is very helpful to improve the teaching efficiency,to expand the teaching scale,and to solve the problem of insufficiency for teaching resources.In the current epidemic situation,online teaching is especially of great significance.This translation material is selected from the book Evaluating Online Teaching: Implementing Best Practices,which can be classified as the type of informative text.It mainly introduces the challenges faced by online teaching and gives guidance and suggestions on how to evaluate online teaching.Based on the differences between English and Chinese as well as the features of the source text,this report discusses the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process and the translation strategies used in both lexical level and syntactical level.At the word level,English static words are transformed into Chinese dynamic words to achieve smooth and natural target texts.As for the implied word meanings of the source text,the amplification method is used to appropriately supplement words.As for the polysemous words,the context-oriented method is applied to get the accurate meanings of the words in the source text.Meanwhile,the addition and omission method are adopted to make the translation clearer and more reasonable.At the sentence level,the splitting method is used to translate the long sentences of the source text in order to make the translation conform to the syntactic features of Chinese language.Many passive sentences have been rendered into Chinese active sentences.And the complex sentences with the semantic center at the head are frequently split into short sentences,moving the focus to the end.As for the sentences with close logical connections,the combination method is used to make the translation concise.
