A Study On Textual Ellipsis Of Comprehensive Textbook For Chinese As A Foreign Language

This research exhaustively analyzes the discourse ellipsis in the three comprehensive textbooks of HSK Standard Course,Chinese Course(3rd Edition)and Development Chinese(2nd Edition).A total of 1,318 items have been collected.The research summarizes discourse ellipsis into three major categories: noun element ellipsis,verb element ellipsis,and multiple element ellipsis.Noun(or noun phrase)ellipsis and personal pronoun ellipsis are the main ellipsis of nouns;verb ellipsis are dominated by verb phrase ellipsis,and most of them are verb-object phrase ellipsis;multiple ellipsis is mainly based on the ellipsis of more than two nominal elements,which are used as the subject and object in the sentence.The study found that Chinese comprehensive textbooks have noticed discourse ellipsis.Most of the textbooks and texts show various forms of discourse ellipsis,and the language point notes are also briefly explained.However,the text discourse ellipsis is not reasonable enough and the amount of repetition is insufficient;the language point notes are not comprehensive and do not follow the principle of gradual difference;the after-class exercises also fail to follow the textual ellipsis form corresponding to the text;the amount of questions is insufficient and the question type is single.When compiling related content omitted in comprehensive Chinese textbooks,it is recommended that the textbook texts pay attention to the completeness of different discourse ellipsis categories,emphasize the recurrence of discourse ellipsis,and also,the difficulty of discourse ellipsis structure is equivalent to the difficulty level of the textbook;pay attention to the comparison of different types of discourse ellipsis in the language notes of the textbook and highlight the characteristics of thetypes of discourse ellipsis in the combination with other grammatical knowledge points;carry out relevant exercises around text ellipsis,increase advertising text exercises,enrich text ellipsis question types based on the level of exercises,and ensure the amount of exercises required for the learned text ellipsis.
