During my master's degree in translation,I translated the book "Idol Culture through the Prism of Media Theory" written by Professor Nishi Kenji of Seikei University in Japan. This report is mainly based on chapter five and chapter seven of this translation practice, aiming to summarize my translation practice experience. From the point of view of media theory,"Idol Culture through the Prism of Media Theory" analyzes the "Idol" culture which has become a cultural phenomenon. In the development process of these decades, there is a feature that runs through all discussions in the book. That is,"Idol" will take a positive attitude "and "face the future" when facing any new situation. The author Nishi Kenji thinks that maybe this feature makes" Idol "become a culture. In the form of lecture notes, the book contains rich Japanese cultural elements. It not only embodies the culture, art and history, but also uses the media theory, which enriches the academic connotation. On the basis of these characteristics, how to make communication successful has become a problem in the translation practice. The author believes that the author of the original text and the target reader are in different historical, social and cultural environments, and the translator needs to make up for this gap while conveying the original intention. In the process of learning translation theory, the author has come into contact with relevance theory, which has put forward corresponding views in this respect, emphasizing that "the key to human communication is to create a hope for the best relevance, that is,the listener hopes that the interpretation he is trying to make will produce enough contextual effects with the lowest processing cost." From the perspective of methodology,it provides a certain basis for my summary of translation practice. The theoretical framework of this report, relevance theory, was developed by Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson on the basis of the relevant principles of pragmatics put forward in 1986.Their student Gutt studied translation according to relevance theory and put forward relevance translation theory in 1991.Relevance theory regards communication as an ostensive inferential process, and its basic argument is the best relevance, which can be obtained when the hearer tries to balance the contextual effect.Domestic scholars such as Lin Kenan(1999),Zhao Yanchun(1999),Sun Xiaoling(2004),Wang Jianguo(2004)and Dong Guangcai(2005)have studied relevance theory in their papers, especially their application in translation practice from the perspective of relevance translation theory.Based on the theory of relevance translation, this practice report analyzes the translation strategies embodied in translation practice and the translation effects achieved from the perspective of words and sentences, and tries to pursue the optimal relevance.
