This article aims to compare the form composition and function expansion of the Chinese and Korean numeral inventory. There are five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction. The second chapter compares and defines the form composition and quantity of the numeral inventory of the two languages from the perspective of linguistic inventory typology. It is divided into three sections: “non-homologous form, phonologiccal change form and derived form”.The objects of function expansion are the numerals and related forms expressing the quantitative meaning“one”,and the commonality and personality characteristics of each function in the expansion direction and used form are analyzed. This is explained from the perspective of prominance theory, divided into two chapters.Chapter three analyzes the common function expansion of Chinese and Korean, and Chapter four analyzes the unique function expansion of each language.Chapter five is the conclusion. This paper draws two conclusions with reference to the theory of inventory typology and prominent category theory.Fisrt,in terms of the number of numeral inventory, the number in the Korean numeral is more than the Chinese numeral. In the category of “one”,there are more forms in Korean numeral inventory(such as original form,Chinese borrowing form,article-shaped form and derived form),and the Chinese numeral inventory have only the numeral“ 一 ”.Second, according to the theory of prominent category, the category of “one” is prominent in both Chinese and Korean, showing a diversified direction of expansion. In the prominant theory of the form,Chinese and Korean are differnt. The lexicla form in Korean is more prominant(various numerals in inventory),and the structural form in Chinese is more prominant(various numeral structures). This leads to a great difference in the direction of form-meaning matching. The expansion direction of Korean is mostly the lexical meaning category. In addition to this, the expansion direction fo Chinese language is mostly expressed in the syntactic meaning category.
