Proofreading And Research On Tong Li

Ma Zong from Tang Dynasty wrote a history book called “Tong Li”.This whole series of book has seven volumes preserved until now,and there is a person who we do not know his name continued to wrote 5 more volumes.The content of “Tong Li”that we have today started from Emperor Gaozu in Jin Dynasty all the way to Emperor Gong in Sui Dynasty.Its content were mostly referenced from books like“Jin Shu”,“The History of Northern and Southern Dynasty”,“Sixteen Countries of Spring and Autumn Period”.They were revised so when we are collating “Tong Li”,we can use these history books,and when we are criticizing those history books,we can use “Tong Li”.Ma used Yu Shinan's “Lue Lun” to criticize the emperors' behaviors whether he did a good job or not.Yu's “Lue Lun” had been lost and no one knew where it had been.However,people found a few pieces in Dunhuang and Oriental Library.Because of that,the book “Tong Li” plays an important roll in collecting contents of “Lue Lun” and proofreading it.The continued 5 volumes of book started from Emperor Gaozu in Tang Dynasty to Liu Chong.Volume 12 to volume 15 is based on the book “The Old Five Dynasties History”.The “The Old Five Dynasties History” we see today was from the hard work in Qing Dynasty of collecting lost pieces from “The Yongle Canon”.The pieces gathered from “The Yongle Canon” was not the whole book,so they took the references that were used in books like “Cefuyuangui”.There is still many parts missing and has mistakes,so“Tong Li” can be used as a reference when proofreading “The Old Five Dynasties History”.There is almost none of the annalistic styled history written in Tang Dynasty has preserved until now,so “Tong li” holds a significant position in analyzing history development and works in Tang Dynasty.Since “Tong Li” is written in avery comprehensive,vivid,fluent,and short way,it was once used as the textbook for emperors in Sui Dynasty.It can be addressed as a great work about history.In this paper,I will try to collate more comprehensively and detailed about the version of Shanxi People's publisher's edit of “Tong Li”.I will be arranging its versions,and use the discovery from my analysis to discuss the continued volume's author in order to perfect it based on ancestors' analyze.
