The source text for this translation report is selected from Water as an Inescapable Risk ——Current Global Water Availability,Quality and Risks with a Specific Focus on South Africa,written by Anja du Plessis.The book describes the shortage of water resources in different regions around the world,aiming at arousing people’s awareness of protecting water resources.Selected chapters(Chapter1-3)mainly describe the current situation of water resources,disasters caused by water shortage and the impact of climate warming on water resources.The source text is an ecological science and technology text and its language is objective,accurate and logical,which is featured with a large number of sentences with implicit logical relations.Therefore,how to explicitate the logical relations in the source text is a key part of the translation practice.With a focus on the strong logical characteristics of ecological science and technology text,the translator applies a variety of translation methods,such as amplification,inversion,conversion,recasting,cutting and repetition to deal with the implicit logical relations in the source text to better explore the translation strategies for implicit logic from a comprehensive perspective.It is beneficial to deepen understanding of translation strategies for explicitating the implicit logic in ecological science and technology text.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation task,and describes the significance of translation practice.Chapter Two relates to the three stages in the translation process.Chapter Three presents the definition of implicit logic and its literature review,and then points out the necessity of explicitating implicit logic in the target text.Chapter Four is the major and difficult part of this report,in which case analysis of implicit logic is conducted to explore translation strategies of explicitation of implicit logic.The last chapter is a summary of major findings and limitations in the translation.
