Challenges And Strategies For Machine Translation In Word Sense Disambiguation

With the development of technology,machine translation has been widely used.Despite its great advantages,machine translation performs badly in disambiguation,especially in word sense disambiguation,which greatly lowers the efficiency and quality of translation.This paper delves into the thorny issues of word sense disambiguation for machine translation based on the translation of DGC for UN,including the multiple choices brought by homonyms,polysemes,abbreviations and phrases,and the ambiguity brought by pronouns,descriptive adjectives,abstract nouns,delexical verbs and phrasal verbs.In order to solve these problems,this paper adopts the comparative and inductive methods,with reference to the relevant literature,and then summarizes the corresponding strategies for word sense disambiguation.It includes the strategies of improving the term bank,selecting the meaning of a word according to the given context to correct the wrong choice of machine translation and the explicit,implicit translation methods as well as the approach of keeping the vagueness of the original language to solve the ambiguity of machine translation.
