| Fluency is an important criterion in measuring the quality of interpreting, while disfluency is an inevitable problem. There is no unified definition of disfluency among scholars.Through research and study, the author found that disfluency falls into different categories.Based on the categories, the author examined his performance of Chinese-English consecutive interpreting of a speech given by professor Meijin Li and found that there are lots of examples of disfluency, mainly filled pauses and corrections. Thus the author carried out corresponding analysis in the two aspects. The author found that the main reasons for filled pauses are insufficient reserve of terms,a lack of understanding of abstract concepts, misinterpretation or confusion over the speaker’s intention and inappropriate language habits.Meanwhile, repeated self-correction is due to improper choice of words or sentence structures. The author gives typical examples and targeted solutions correspondingly in the hope that this thesis can help himself and those with similar problems improve their performance in interpreting by avoiding disfluencies in the future. |
