Since the 21 st century,art projects in the countryside has gradually became a phenomenon that cannot be ignored in the field of contemporary art.This phenomenon can be defined as art projects in which artists step out of the traditional art space and intervene to the countryside.By means of comparative study and literature research,this paper intends to divide those cases into two types: "rural construction" and "participative mode".Sorting out the causes and common characteristics of this phenomenon by take "Xucun Project" and “The Yangdeng Art Collective" as cases to analyze the differences,social values as well as limitations.This study argues that those art projects has following values: to promote the self-expression of villagers,to improve their social visibility,to help the protection of rural cultural space,and to built an effectively art way of communication between urban and rural areas.However,it is undeniable that the process of art intervention in the countryside not only expands the amount of audiences of contemporary art,but also weakens the aesthetic and conceptual values to some extent.
