| This paper is a report on the practice of translation.The translator selects the first part(Friday)of a comic novel of American literature,Stay Up with Hugo Best,as the text of this translation.With the rapid development of the global economy,cultural exchanges have become one of the important ways for communication among countries.And literary works are an important embodiment of a country’s culture.Therefore,it can better understand the foreign culture to translate foreign excellent literary works into Chinese.The translator as well as author has the responsibility and obligation to carry out such translation work in Chinese and try her best to translate an appropriate Chinese version with the translation theories and methods she has learned.This is the first translation of the novel and has certain value.The source text of the novel is humorous,and it is difficult to find the corresponding words in the target language,which is a major difficulty in the translation of this paper.Taking the dialogues of the characters in the novel as the analysis object,this paper focuses on the translation methods of dialogues.At the same time,the dialogues of the characters in the novel are an important means for the author to show the characters’ personalities.To reproduce the characters’ styles in the translation,it is necessary to grasp the colloquial characteristics and accurately restore the characters’ traits.To solve the difficulties,the translator mainly adopts two methods: literal translation and free translation.After careful consideration,the translator finally takes the “three principles” of Skopos Theory as the guiding theory of the translation.In recent years,Skopos Theory guides the translation of non-literary works more and more.However,the literature that uses the theory to guide the translation of literary works is very rare.As the language of the novel is humorous,the use of Skopos Theory as its guidance can precisely highlight the aesthetic purpose of its literary works,realize the role of information transmission,and make the readers better understand the source text.Through this translation practice,the translator proves the feasibility of Skopos Theory to guide the translation of literary comedy works,and hopes to make some contribution to the translation of foreign literature. |
