| The translation report is based on the biography of Lord George Bentinck A Political Geography that contains literary and non-literary features.Foregrounding languages can reflect literature, but they must conform with the facts.Additionally, the languages in biographies are created by the intention of the author, which coincides with motivated foregrounding languages. In a word, foregrounding is a deviation from conventional expression, making readers feel unfamiliar and impressed to achieve writing objectives.Foregrounding contains different forms that make the translation more difficult. That means translators must choose from keeping foregrounding between maintaining reader-friendly.According to the type and content of this translation report, foregrounding includes unintentional and intentional ones. The former was created by the differences of two languages and culture-loaded words, not by the purpose of the author. However, the latter represents motivated deviation and can be divided into two categories:qualitative deviation in phonetics, grammar, semantics, words and rhetoric and quantitative deviation that produced by the repetition in words, sentences and context. Two kinds of foregrounding make languages fresh, but the writing intention is totally different and translators need to adopt different ways,so it is important for them to distinguish one from the other.Foregrounding has developed well in the field of stylistics and has been studied globally, but there are few research related to translation, not to mention linking with types of text.Adopting linguistics and translation theories, this translation report analyses the foregrounding and related translation problems based on the text features and it summarizes the difficulties and translation measures. So,it is expected that the translation report can contribute to the translation of foregrounding in biography. |
