At present,the most serious problem in elementary English teaching phase in China is the “separation between learning and using”.When we consider English reading and writing skills,problems keep emerging.Under the background of exam-oriented teaching aim,how to deeply internalize the “Core Competences” and “New Curriculum Standards” into the middle school's English classes is the most important question to be considered nowadays.Based on the theories of “Production-oriented Approach” and the content of text books,this study adopts the PAD Class as the basic teaching model and combines it with English reading and writing teaching to carry out an action research.Starting from the theoretical definition,the author will further give the operational definition of “Core Competence” and link it to the actual teaching of reading and writing skills.This action research is mainly divided into two rounds.The intra-group comparison is employed.Two modules' reading and teaching content can be seen as one round of the action research.At the same time,we also take the results of classroom observation,interviews,teachers' reflective journals and other materials into consideration so as to ensure that the experimental results have a certain degree of reliability and validity.This study mainly answers the following three questions:(1)Compared with the current English teaching in junior high schools,does the PAD Class improve the quality of students' English reading and writing?(2)Compared with the current English teaching in junior high schools,does the PAD Class help students master the new target language items?(3)What are the evaluations and attitudes of teachers and students towards PAD Class?The statistics of this study were processed with the help of SPSS.First of all,the first round's results were compared with the average score of the previous test.Then the paired sample T test was used to compare the correlation,the standard error between the two groups.In addition,the p value should also be considered to compare the significant differences so that the author got the conclusion of the first-round.Based on the problems in the first-round,the reflection was made in time.The second-round research mainly compared the differences between the test results of the second round and the first round,and explored the impact of the “PAD Class”.Besides,the attitudes and evaluations of teachers and students were also mentioned.By analyzing quantitative data and qualitative results,it is concluded that “PAD Class” is helpful for English reading and writing in junior high schools.The results of the first-round are more obvious than the second-round research.The purposes of this research are trying to solve the problem of “PAD Class” and trying to realize the “New Curriculum Standards” and “Core Competences” in the junior high schools' English reading and writing teaching.At the same time,the author provides some tentative suggestions for further studies based on the shortcomings of this research.The author has made a conclusion in the last chapter.It is hoped that this research will provide practical ideas for frontline English teachers in teaching English reading and writing.
