At present,the comparative study of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English from the perspective of interactional linguistics is rare.Therefore,the thesis aims to compare the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English from the perspective of interactional linguistics,based on the theories of interactional linguistics,functional grammar and conversation analysis.Specifically,the thesis mainly explores patterns of distribution,turn-constructional functions and discourse-interactional functions of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English in spoken discourses to explain their distribution meanings and functions in the spoken interaction.The thesis aims to further explore the similarities and differences of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English from the perspective of interactional linguistics,further providing some help for English learners and Chinese learners to deeply understand and put the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English into use.The collected corpus is from Yang Lan One on One and PBS High-end Interview.Through the analysis,it can be found out that patterns of distribution of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English in spoken discourses mainly include the following two aspects:1)The occurrence frequency of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”in Chinese and maybe in English is highest in the initial position of a sentence,having the strongest interactivity.The occurrence frequency of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”in Chinese and probably in English is highest in the medial position of a sentence with strongest interactivity.2)The covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese mainly collocate with modal verbs“?”?“?”?“?”,modal particles“?”?“?”?“?”?“?”and the verb“?”.The covert assertive adverbial conjunction probably in English mainly collocates with simple future tense markers will and be going to,the superlative degree words and the verb be.The covert assertive adverbial conjunction maybe in English mainly collocates with animate pronouns such as I,we,he and you.Besides,turn-constructional functions of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English in spoken discourses have two functions:1)turn-opening;2)turn-holding.The covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”and“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English can be used to open and hold the turn.They usually don't appear in the final position of the turn.What's more,discourse-interactional functions of the covert assertive adverbial conjunctions“??”,“??”in Chinese and probably,maybe in English in spoken discourses mainly include the following two aspects:1)Return to a pre-prior talk to accomplish an interactional task;2)Express participants'subjective emotion and attitude.
