A Report On The E-C Translation Of News Commentary Selected From "The Talk Of The Town" Column In New Yorker

News commentary not only plays an important role in news communication,but also provides readers with more profound thoughts with its penetrating insights,which can effectively help them to explore the world and follow international trends.Therefore,the E-C translation of news commentary is particularly important.Based on that,this project report selected news commentaries from “The Talk of the Town” column in New Yorker.On the one hand,the author wishes to provide help for readers in the respect of language understanding and English learning.On the other hand,the author explores and analyzes difficulties and issues confronted in the translation process from the perspectives of title,rhetoric,lexicon,and syntax.Under the guidance of Nida's dynamic equivalence theory,the author intends to explore the useful translation methods and strategies of news commentary translation.According to the characteristics of news commentary and the language characteristics of selected articles,the author summarizes difficulties and issues confronted in the translation process of E-C translation from the perspective of title,rhetoric,lexicon,and syntax,and sums up the corresponding translation methods.For title,the author mainly solves the expression differences between Chinese and English titles through free translation and amplification.For rhetoric,with the help of Nida's dynamic equivalence theory and the domestication translation strategy,the author tries to enhance the readability of the translation through literal translation,free translation and extension.The features of the selected text on the lexicon are highlighted by the extensive use of proper nouns,so the author establishes a glossary to ensure the consistency of the translation.For slang translation,the author mainly adopts domestication strategy to make up for cultural deficiency of the target language.In addition,in order to enhance the quality of the translation,the author uses a large number of four-character cases.For syntax,the author mainly adopts the translation methods of combination of sequential translation,inverse translation and division to solve the difficulties in word order translation.And the author adds a lot of background information to help readers understand the original text.At last,the author summarizes the problems confronted in translation process,and the translation methods and techniques applicable to news commentary,hoping to provide some enlightenment and help to other translators.
