Nowadays, the new political pattern in the world is moving towards multiple popularization, and the importance of strengthening China-Africa relations is increasingly prominent. The Oxford Encyclopedia of African Thought describes African history, culture and thought from various perspectives, and is the best book to understand Africa in all aspects. This paper is a practical report on the translation of African information texts. The task of translation is to extract four entries of this book, which introduce four prominent writers in the history of Africa, who made great contributions in the development of African thought. They are good to be known if the readers want to learn more about African thought. The report focuses on all kinds of problems in translation as the case analysis object of this practical report, and takes appropriate solutions to these problems. The main problems the translator encountered in the translation process include how to correctly translate the proper nouns of cultural and political categories, how to solve difficult words, phrases, and long difficult sentences. In order to achieve the ideal translation, the translator mainly takes Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the theoretical support of this translation activity. From the perspective of solving problems, this paper analyzes the application of functional equivalence theory in this translation practice, combining with translation strategies and skills such as translation compensation, division, interpretation and explanation. The purpose of this translation practice is to explore the translation strategies of informative texts and the guiding role of functional equivalence theory.Through this translation practice, the author hopes to improve her translation level and make some contributions to the translation research of information-based texts and the spread of African culture in China.Through the description and analysis of translation tasks, the report concludes as follows:(1)the method of translation compensation and functional equivalence theory can be used to solve the problems encountered in translating informative texts.(2)In the face of information-based translation, translators should try their best to understand the original content correctly, and take accurate communication of the original text as the top priority of translation. In addition, the translator has gained a lot of experience in the translation of information texts, but also found that there arestill many shortcomings. In the future study, the translator will strive to explore various knowledge and constantly improve her own level.
