A Report On The Keyword Translation Of The Oxford Encyclopedia Of African Thought

With the closer relationship between China and Africa,scholars are increasingly enthusiastic about the study of African thought.African thought works occupy an important place and need to be translated urgently.This practical report is based on The Oxford Encyclopedia of African Thought,which focuses on African thoughts and introduces African cultures,African movements and African thought keywords.The text is of significance to be translated.The purpose of this paper is to further explore the methods and techniques of the translation of African thought keywords.The research method of text analysis is employed.Informative text is concise,objective and content-oriented,so the author follows the principles of faithfulness,smoothness and standardization in translation.This paper mainly introduces the features of historical informative text,describes the translation process including translation preparation,key and difficult points in translation,and review after translation.Specific examples for the problems and difficulties in translation are analyzed from the aspects of translation theory,methods and techniques and effective translation strategies are concluded.Through the analysis of typical examples,the author discusses the translation methods of keywords’ title in the selected texts and explores the translation of important words by using extension.Then,the author seeks such translation methods as division,amplification and reduction to translate difficult sentences and further explores the translation of African proverbs.Finally,the significance of textual cohesion is emphasized through examples.The author attempts to learn in this translation practice.On the one hand,translation is a process of learning in which the author can enrich perspective on African thoughts and culture through seeking reference and background.On the other hand,through the practice of translation materials,the author can have a better grasp of translation skills,especially in keywords translation.
