In recent years,China has joined hands with African countries in intellectual exchanges and cooperation to promote the independence and development of the African ideological field. However,Chinese scholars are still lack of research on the tradition of African humanities and social sciences, and have not yet compiled classic works on humanities and social sciences. The Encyclopedia of African Thought is a reference book that introduces African thought and culture, covering all aspects of African thought and cultural development. The translation of such monographs is of great significance to the study of African thought. The Encyclopedia of African Thought is an informative text, which mainly presents facts, information, knowledge, opinions, etc. Its language is characterized by strong logicality, and the focus of the text is the content rather than the form. The translation should convey the same concepts and information with the original text in plain vernacular. The translator needs to pay attention to the historical features of the text.On the basis of understanding the original text,a large number of historical facts and references are needed to ensure the accuracy of the translation. The translator selects some entries of African philosophical thoughts and their representatives to translate into Chinese, and discusses the techniques of translating informative texts into Chinese. The translator realizes that in the practice of EnglishChinese translation of informative texts, sometimes it is necessary to break the original sentence structure and make adjustments, which in fact enables the translation to better convey the original information. The translator mainly focuses on the typical differences between Chinese and English in the project of philosophical thoughts, the conversion techniques and the culture-loaded words on such texts: static words are commonly used in English while dynamic expressions are commonly used in Chinese, and flexible conversions are needed in English-Chinese translation;persons are commonly used as subjects in English while things are commonly used as subjects in Chinese, and flexible conversions are also needed;translating the text with as much background knowledge as possible about philosophy, history and geography would convey the source text information more accurately. The translator tries to provide some reference for the later translation of African philosophy thought through the experience and perception of this report.
