Frege's highly original work has been a huge success and left plenty of questions.These questions are so important to philosophy that one cannot but face them.The question considered in this paper is one in the theory of meaning: if a=b is true,then why is a=a different from a=b? Obviously,the former is trivial,while the latter expands our understanding.This is the famous "Frege's Puzzle"(FP),which involves the same substitution and cognitive differences.First,this paper carefully analyzes FP itself.On the basis of distinguishing the cognitive version of FP from the semantic one,it can be seen that the latter mainly involves the problem of cognitive difference,while the former involves the same substitution.This paper focuses on the cognitive version.Secondly,this paper further investigates the treatment of FP by direct referentialism and indirect referentialism.The following lessons can be learned by examining these processing strategies: in terms of the processing strategy of direct referentialism,reference alone cannot answer the problem of cognitive differences in FP,and reference alone cannot obtain meaning.For example,the strict indicators of strict indicators strategy cannot be implemented;Semantic pragmatic differentiation strategy is not convincing for the denial of cognitive differences in semantic versions;The cooperative concept of semantic relationism strategy cannot be realized by reference alone.As far as the processing strategy of indirect referentialism is concerned,the interpretation of the sense as the mode of reference or similar concepts cannot cope well with FP,and there is always some kind of cycle in this interpretation.In fact,the sense is essentially original.For example,the concept of state description of intensional logic strategy is no clearer than the concept of sense;The concept of modes of presentation of algebraic method strategy is not more elaborate than the concept of sense;Similarly,the conceptual concept of conceptual semantic strategy does not appear to be any simpler than the concept of sense.Finally,through combining the two aspects of the teaching and re-analyzing Frege's treatment of FP,we can see that both sense and reference are indispensable to the solution of FP.In fact,it is only from thought to truth that cognition can emerge.The importance of sense to cognitive differences lies in the fact that sense is what people claim to grasp when they understand language.The advancement from sense to reference is a process of understanding,grasping and cognizing language.One explanation of FP seems to be that,although a=b is true,the two same sentences a=a and a=b can still be understood,grasped and cognized differently,in other words,the advancements from sense to reference are different.
