It is important for senior high school students to master writing skills.Teacher feedback is a traditional revision way having existed for many decades.Peer feedback has a prominent place in process-oriented writing instruction.It is regarded as the supplement to teacher feedback,reducing teachers' heavy burden.However,researchers have had different ideas about the effects of teacher and peer feedback.In order to better understand the respective effects of teacher feedback and peer feedback,an eighteen-week study was carried out to find out the effects of teacher feedback and peer feedback.91 subjects from Shihua Number 1 Senior High School in Anqing participated in the research.46 subjects in an experimental class were separated into 11 groups based on the scores of the pre-test and one group member was chosen as the leader.Based on the theories of the Zone of Proximal Development,Process Writing and Collaborative Learning,this research makes an attempt to answer the following questions:1.In what aspects can teacher feedback improve more effectively senior high schoolstudents' English writing ability than peer feedback?2.In what aspects can peer feedback improve more effectively senior high school students'English writing ability than teacher feedback?3 Which type of feedback do senior high school students prefer? Why?The study used several different instruments: a pre-test,a post-test,a questionnaire and semi-structure interviews to make an extensive comparison between the effects of teacher feedback and those of peer feedback.The data were collected based on the pre-test and post-test,which were interpreted quantitatively by SPSS 25.0.The data of the questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were collected and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The results of the research indicate:(1)Teacher feedback is more effective in improving students' writing proficiency in content,organization and grammar.(2)Peer feedback is more effective in improving students' writing proficiency in vocabulary and mechanical skills.(3)Most students prefer teacher feedback to peer feedback because they believe that teacher feedback improves their writing ability more effectively.Because teacher feedbackand peer feedback have their own advantages and disadvantage in improving English writing proficiency,the combination of teacher feedback and peer feedback is more effective in improving students' writing proficiency.This study can provide the following enlightenment for the senior high school English writing teaching:(1)Peer feedback is the beneficial supplement to teacher feedback.Improving the English writing ability of senior high school students can't just rely on teacher feedback or peer feedback.(2)The combination of peer feedback and teacher feedback can give full play to their respective advantages and comprehensively improve students' writing level.
