Technical innovations deeply change our life,and as the witness of evolvement of times,we gradually aware because people have more accesses to entertainment activities,as the means of cultural communication,translation has already been beyond literature and other common forms.Observing current development of translation trends,the translator finds audio and subtitle translation of movies and TV shows gradually become indispensable,and there are more and more scholars starting to focus on audiovisual translation.Compared with traditional text translation,the objects of audiovisual translation have the characteristic of multi-sense effect,so audiovisual translation is more complicated than the translation of ordinary text.In addition,audiovisual translation tends to involve many special translation strategies.It is obvious that the hidden research value of audiovisual translation is enormous.This report is based on E-C translation of Sections One and Two in Chapter Three of the book,Translation and Localisation in Video Games: Making Entertainment Software Global by Miguel á.Bernal-Merino.This book aims to translation problems in global spreading process of video games and thus triggers systematic discussions.The contents of this book can mainly be divided into three parts: trends of translating video games,translation of video games and localization of video games.In Chapter Three,the author stresses linguistic characteristics of video games.In addition,the author also believes translation of video games in essence is the multi-textual reality of a complex product,because it refers to different kinds of materials.The source text is characterized by abundant professional terms and a great number of long and complex sentences dominated by attributive clauses and adverbial clauses.According to Katrina Reiss’ text typology,source text is an informative text that focuses on the content with the aim of conveying information to readers.When translating informativetext,the translator pays attention to accuracy and readability of the target text.Under the guidance of Newmark’s Communicative Translation theory,and given the characteristics of source text,the translator adopts some translation skills such as omission,voice changes,restructuring,division and conversion.This report can be mainly divided into four parts.The first part introduces this book,the author,reasons for selecting this book as well as the analysis of source text.The second part illustrates translation process.The third part is case study,analyzing concrete examples.And the last part is about conclusion,consisting of reflections,limitations and suggestions.Finally,here concludes values of this report as follows: On one hand,the translator can further improve her translation skills and apply relevant translation theories to the whole translation process,on the other hand,through translated text the translator wishes to shed some light on future translation work referring to game localization.At the same time,the translator looks forward to imparting new knowledge to readers who are interested in game and game localization.
