| For college students, dormitory interpersonal relationships are one of the most important interpersonal relationships and an important part of their social support system. The quality of interpersonal relationships in the dormitory directly affects the physical and mental health of college students. Most of the previous related studies were case studies conducted by selecting one or several dormitories, which focused on exploring the status, types, characteristics and influencing factors of interpersonal relationships in college dormitories, and rarely explored interpersonal conflict resolution in dormitories and its internal mechanisms.Based on this, this study intends to use human relational existence as a logical starting point to investigate the impact of self-construal on interpersonal conflict resolution strategies in dormitories in different conflict types, and further explore the internal mechanism of interpersonal conflict resolution in dormitories. This research is divided into three parts. The first study used semi-structured interviews, and selected nine representative subjects(3males and 6 females),and used thematic analysis to explore the impact of college students’ self-construal and conflict types on interpersonal conflict resolution in dormitories.Research 2 uses an experimental method to verify Research 1.Through 3(self-construal: individual self, relationship self, group self)×2(conflict types: value-based conflicts,interest-based conflicts)experimental design between the subjects, this study uses multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA),using collaboration, compliance, avoidance, and competition strategies as dependent variables,to explore the effects of self-construal and conflict types on different resolution strategies.Study 3explores the mechanism of the influence of self-construal and conflict types on interpersonal conflict resolution strategies in dormitories based on Study2,namely the mediating role of disappointment and anger.A self-construal’s instruction activation method,a solution strategy questionnaire, and a tripleself-construal questionnaire were used to investigate 271 college students. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Through qualitative analysis, the discussion of interpersonal conflict in dormitories is divided into three main categories: self-construal,conflict types, and resolution strategies. The self-construal main category includes individual self, relationship self, and collective self. The conflict types main category include value-based conflicts and interest-based conflicts. The resolution strategies main category include collaborating, obliging, avoiding and dominating strategy. In qualitative research,self-construal affects conflict resolution strategies, that is,when individual self is prioritized, respondents are more concerned about their own interests and ignore the needs of others,so they adopt more dominating strategies;when relationship self, and the collective self is prioritized, respondents pay more attention to the interests of other than to their own interests, and is more likely to adopt collaborating, obliging and avoiding strategies, and less of a dominating strategy.conflict types affect conflict resolution Strategies, that is,in the context of interest conflict, individuals are more likely to show collaborating and avoiding;in the context of value conflicts, individuals are more likely to avoiding.(2)In the quantitative study of Study 2,self-construal and conflict types inpact the collaborating, avoiding and dominating in conflict resolution strategies, and the impact of self-construal on dominating and avoiding strategy is regulated by conflict types. In the context of value conflicts,self-construal has significant impact on dominating strategy.Compared with the relationship self and collective self, individual self tend to adopt dominating behaviors; In the context of interest conflicts,self-construal does not significantly impact dominating strategy. In the context of value conflicts,self-construal has a significant impact on avoiding strategy and individuals with prominent relationship self tend to avoiding; In the context of interest conflicts,self-construal has a significant impact on avoidingstrategy, and individuals with prominent collective self tend to avoiding.(3)In the quantitative study of Study 3,self-construal and conflict types affect avoiding strategy through disappointment and affect dominating strategy through anger, and conflict types moderate the first half of the self-construal-disappointment--avoiding strategy and self-construcal-anger-dominating strategy path. |
