In today's increasingly fierce social competition,with the Internet companies continue to promote the “996” work model,the phenomenon of work addiction is increasingly common.More people are beginning to realize the dangers of work addiction.Although the academic community has confirmed that work addiction may be triggered by individual characteristics and induced by external environment,few empirical studies have explored the internal mechanism of how individual characteristics and external environment interact and cause work addiction behavior.Individual is the carrier of work addiction behavior,and individual characteristics are closely related to the cultivation and development of work addiction.As a typical individual characteristic,perfectionism may be an important cause of job addiction.Therefore,the relationship between perfectionism and job addiction has become the focus of research.At present,most of the research in this field just stays in the theoretical reasoning and hypothesis,and lacks the strong support of empirical research.Therefore,this study attempts to explore the relationship between perfectionism and work addiction from a cognitive perspective,and to investigate the relationship between different dimensions of perfectionism and work addiction in the context of Chinese culture,so as to enrich and improve the formation mechanism of work addiction.This study used tools such as perfectionism scale,work addiction scale,irrational belief scale in the workplace,and non-work time auxiliary work technique scale to explore the role of irrational belief and non-work auxiliary work technique in perfectionist's work addiction.The results showed that:(a)positive/negative perfectionism has a significant positive predictive effect on work addiction;That is,both positive and negative perfectionists are more likely to become addicted to work.(b)performance requirement mediated the relationship between positive perfectionism and individual work addiction,while performance requirement mediated the relationship between negative perfectionism and individual work addiction.In other words,perfectionists have unreasonable beliefs about performance requirements,through which work addiction behavior is generated.(c)colleague recognition mediated the relationship between positive perfectionism and individual work addiction,while colleague recognition mediated the relationship between negative perfectionism and individual work addiction.That is to say,perfectionists have unreasonable beliefs about the approval of colleagues,and they generate addictive behaviors through the unreasonable beliefs about the approval of colleagues.(d)failure mediated the relationship between positive perfectionism and individual work addiction,while failure mediated the relationship between negative perfectionism and individual work addiction.That is,perfectionists have irrational beliefs about failure and generate work addiction behavior through the perception of failure avoidance.(e)control mediated the relationship between positive perfectionism and individual work addiction,while control mediated the relationship between negative perfectionism and individual work addiction.That is,perfectionists have irrational beliefs about control,in order to have a sense of control over work that produces work addiction behavior.(f)non-working time auxiliary work technique moderated the relationship between irrational belief and individual work addiction in individual work;That work in high non-work time auxiliary technology environment also said more workability tools after work environment,perfectionism staff would in this case,in order to avoid negative information of irrational belief that the pursuit of higher performance,tend to have more chances to use spare time auxiliary work technology to keep in touch,job information and E-mail immediately,thereby deepening work addiction.The results validated the theoretical hypothesis and provide empirical support for explaining the relationship between perfectionism and work addiction.Effective measures to prevent work addiction should focus on: 1)cognitive therapy for the irrational beliefs of perfectionists at work,and 2)strict control of the availability and frequency of use of non-work time auxiliary work techniques.
