Much of the research on anticipated regret sits on the impact of anticipated regret on decision-making.In recent years, there have been some research on the influence factors of anticipated regret, and the norm theory and decision justification have been found. However, there is still less research on the effect of individual personality traits on anticipated regret.Studies have found that self-esteem levels can affect individuals' propensity to regret, but have not produced systematic studies on the effects of self-esteem levels on anticipated regret. The study explores the impact of self-esteem level on anticipated regret, and introduces norm theory and decision justification theory is a comprehensive discussion of the influence mechanism of self-esteem level, normality, and decision carefulness on anticipated regret of middle-aged people. The study included three experiments: a total of 157 subjects were tested in the first test, using a mixture of 2(self-esteem level)x2(decision normality),in-depth verification in the framework of norm theory whether self-esteem level can affect the anticipated regret and the effect of the counterfactual thinking on anticipated regret.A total of 123 subjects were tested in the second test, using a mixture of 2(self-esteem level)x 2(decision carefulness).In-depth verification in the framework of decision justification theory, whether self-esteem level can affect the anticipated regret and the effect of perceived decision justification on anticipated regret.A total of 323 subjects were tested in the third test, using 2(self-esteem level)x 2(decision normality)x 2(decision carefulness)of the complete random experimental design,to explore whether the subjects can independently induce thinking on counterfactual thinking when there is no within-subject design, and systematically study the mechanism of self-esteem level, decision normality and decision carefulness on anticipated regret when coexist. The results are as follows:(1)In experiment I,the main effect of self-esteem level on anticipated regret in middle-aged people was not significant, the main effect of decision normality on anticipated regret in middle-aged people was significant, and the interaction effect was not significant.(2)In experiment II,the main effect of self-esteem level on anticipated regret in middle-aged people was significant, the decision carefulness had a significant effect on the anticipated regret effect of middle-aged people, and the interaction effect was not significant.(3)In experiment III,the main effect of self-esteem level on anticipated regret in middle-aged people was significant, the decision carefulness had a significant effect on the anticipated regret effect, the main effect of the decision normality on anticipated regret was not significant, and the interaction effect was not significant. The following research conclusions are drawn: Under the framework of norm theory,decision-making with high normality experienced less anticipated regret than that with low normality through counterfactual thinking. And self-esteem levels can not influence anticipated regret through differences in counterfactual thinking.(2)Under the framework of decision justification theory,middle-aged people with high self-esteem level and experiencing less anticipated regret than low self-esteem level.Decisions with a high degree of carefulness perceived more decision justification caution than the 1ow degree, and less anticipated regret is experienced.(3)When the experiment becomes an between-subject design two frameworks exist at the same time,self-esteem level and decision carefulness can independently induce the perceived decision justification of decision-making to affect the anticipated regret."Consistency with friends' decision-making" on the one hand, because it reduces the vulnerability of counterfactual thinking after becoming between-subject design,on the other hand,as a small-scale default social normality compared with the decision justification such a large general social normality, the normality has been weakened,No longer affects expected regret.
