Discussion On The Characteristics Of Uncertainty In Postmodern Films

Modernity has been one of the focal points discussed in films for a long time.Modernity has a broad definition.It can be the spirit of rationalism,the grand narrative that overlooks the glory and gloom of the society,the abbreviation of industrial civilization,and the pronoun of modern political economy.However,with the progress and development of the society,the connotation of modernity became rigid,independence moved towards anthropocentrism,and "rational criticism" limited the freedom of imagination born of human beings.At this time,"post-modernism" extricated itself from "modernity",questioned everything and deconstructed everything,bringing people more thoughts about themselves and society.At present,people’s attention has gradually shifted from the cultural issues advocated by modern images,and various survival dilemmas in the post-modern context are attracting people’s attention with images as the carrier.As an important feature of "postmodern" expression,"uncertainty" has also become an indispensable feature of film art.By virtue of the uncertain feature,the "post-modern" trend of thought redefines the film art,subverts the fixed paradigm of the traditional film for narrative mode,narrative technique,characterization and theme expression,and brings more personalized feelings to the viewer who interprets the image.This paper intends to make a brief analysis of how the film confronts and deconstructs traditional modernity through "uncertainty" in combination with the short film "endless summer" from the following three aspects: the disintegration of "uncertainty" of modernity,the presentation of "uncertainty" in post-modern films,and the meaning of "uncertainty" to post-modern films.
