| The promotion of globalization is irresistible,and extensive international exchanges are increasingly frequent.International understanding education is attracting a great deal of attention.At present,the international understanding education is carried out nationwide mainly through various subject teaching activities.Primary English teaching plays the role of transmitting information among different nationalities,teaching etiquette and culture of different countries,improving the understanding of all nationalities across the world,which coincides with the content of international understanding education.No.1 Primary School of Chengdu Tianfu New District is located in the core district of Chengdu Tianfu New District,surrounded by well-known domestic and international enterprises.The relatively high degree of international integration provides unique conditions and opportunities for schools to carry out international understanding education.In order to meet the requirements of the times and the social development,promote the cultural understanding of students in primary school,develop their healthy personality and cultivate the civilized quality as well as international communication ability of them,No.1 Primary School of Tianfu New District in Chengdu,a key primary school in this area,has initiated the course of international understanding education that is suitable for local school and satisfies the development needs of the students,teachers and school.Based on the analyses of the foreign and domestic international understanding education course development,this thesis conducted a research project concerning the approaches to implementing international understanding education at the No.1 Primary School of Tianfu New District in Chengdu.The methods of literature review,questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted to investigate the effective ways to explore and practice the implementation of international understanding education with school characteristics in the process of English teaching in primary schools.Then,this thesis analyzed the achievements of the course and ultimately discussed the further improvements to be made.The results indicated that it was feasible to implement school-based international understanding education within the framework of elementary English course.International understanding education has been successfully carried out through English classes,theme-based experiential activities and creating supportive cultural environment.Students have improved their knowledge,ability and attitude of international understanding to varying degrees.This study also found that the lack of teaching materials of international understanding education has negative impact on the study to a certain extent;the insufficient use of social resources restricted the further development of international understanding education.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions and measures to make up for the shortfalls. |
