In recent years,along with the rapid development of economic globalization,China is more closely connected with other countries in the world.As we can see from the book market,excellent translators in China are dedicated to translating high quality foreign books into Chinese version in order to bring advanced western culture to China.Translation of parenting books is just one case in point.The translation quality of such books will have a positive effect on people's educational concepts and methods.This thesis is a report on the translation practice of The Gift of Good Manners written by Peggy Post and Cindy Post.The book has 30 chapters,and the author is responsible for the translation of 16 to 30 chapters.This task has 88,472 words in total,and it was translated independently by the author.This report aims to explore the relevance to Nida's Functional Equivalence theory of the translation of parenting books,and explore the translation strategies and methods of parenting books under the guidance of translation theory,hoping to be helpful for the translation field.At the same time,it is also helpful for Chinese parents to learn advanced western parenting ideas and methods,so as to help the cultivation and education of teenagers.Through analysis of the content and language features of source text,the author finds that it is very important to prepare and read parallel texts before translating.When the author translates the text,the whole translation process is guided by Nida's Functional Equivalence theory,and corresponding translation methods are adopted to solve the problems during translation process.When finishing the translation task,the author summarizes her own translation experience as follows: 1.Make good preparations before you start translating.2.Improve language skills and translation skills.3.Strengthen team work.4.Strengthen the study of theoretical knowledge.5.Make best use of translation tools to improve translation proficiency as well as translation quality.
