With the vigorous development of the “The Belt and Road” construction, the cooperation between Chinese and foreign projects has reached a new height in history. Most of cooperation are mainly in the filed of infrastructure and energy. Therefore, the construction and engineering contracts need to get high quality translation documents under the guidance of the correct translation theory to achieve better communication and cooperation.Employing the E-C translation of “General Conditions of Construction and Engineering Contract of Philippines” as the object of study and Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the theoretical framework, this thesis studies the translation of engineering contracts from three levels: lexical, syntactical and discourse levels and gives some examples. In this way,the theoretical and practical implication of this theory in contract translation has been discussed.According to functional equivalence theory,Nida put content equivalence at first, followed by formal equivalence.Compared with non-practical texts, contract texts are more rigorous in form. Therefore, the author strives to achieve both content and form equivalence in the process of translation. In this thesis, the author cites a large number of examples in translation texts to discuss English-Chinese translation techniques of engineering contracts from three aspects: vocabulary, syntax and discourse, and strives to achieve equivalence in form and content of the translated texts. It is found that,in general, dual equivalence can be achieved,if there is conflict between the two,the author should consider the content equivalence firstly, while giving consideration to the form equivalence. This paper analyses how to deal with the relationship between content equivalence and form equivalence in contract texts from a new perspective, and summarizes the key points in the process of engineering contract translation, hoping to provide some guidance for engineering translation with a modest effort.
