The National English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School puts forward new requirements for the English writing of high schools.And the English writing is also an important and weak part of English learning,so how to improve the English writing level of high school students has become an urgent problem to be solved.According to memetics proposed by Dawkins,if the components of language are successfully replicated and transmitted through imitation,they can become the memes.The four stages(assimilation,retention,expression,and transmission)of the development and transmission of the memes are consistent with the process of English writing,and the memes have two types: genotype memes and phenotype memes.If the English writing teaching can be carried out according to the type characteristics of memes and the mode of replication and transmission,the English writing level and grades of high school students can be further improved.In this study,students from two parallel classes of Grade Two in Fuzhou No.15 High School were taken as the experimental subjects for a three-month teaching experiment.The experimental class adopted the English writing teaching mode based on language memetics,while the control class adopted the traditional teaching mode.The research methods mainly adopted literature methods,experimental methods,interview methods,and questionnaire methods.There are the conclusions of the research questions from data analysis:(1)Compared with the students who are guided by traditional English writing methods,the English writing level and grades of the senior high school students who have accepted the English writing learning method based on language memetics have significantly improved.(2)Their writing methods and attitude have also changed.Language memetics provides students with a more effective self-learning method outside the classroom,and students can initially grasp the language memetics.They will continue to use this method to improve their English writing grades and try to apply this method to other aspects,such as sentence translation and grammar.
