With the development of humanistic science and technology,the concept of people-oriented education has gradually risen.Accordingly,cultivating English autonomous learning abilities has become the key point of research in the field of education.How to improve English autonomous learning ability is one of the most important goals of school education,and it is also the common trend of world educational reform and development.Teaching students in accordance with their aptitude is an educational concept commonly adopted by educators.It means that the teacher should respect the differences between different students,including the differences of perceptual learning styles.This paper intends to take the senior high school students in Fuzhou No.4Senior High School as an example by the method of documentation and questionnaires.The thesis aims to discuss the relationship of English learner's autonomy and perceptual learning style by exploring the differences of the English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students from the perspective of perceptual learning style theory.The author hopes that the research can provide some references for teachers to improve their English autonomous learning ability.This paper focuses on the following three issues:Firstly,what are the characteristics of the senior high school students' perceptual learning style? Secondly,what is the situation of the senior high school students' English self-learning ability? Thirdly,is there any correlation between students' perceptual learning style and English learner's autonomy? And if so,what is the accurate correlation?What are the implications for teachers in future English teaching? In order to explore those above questions,Xu Jinfen's English Autonomous Learning Questionnaire(2004)and Reid's Perceptual Learning Style Questionnaire(1984)are adopted and the investigation is conducted among 100 senior high school students in Fuzhou No.4 Senior High School.Then 100 questionnaires are collected and analyzed by SPSS19.0.On the basis of those data,we can reach several conclusions.Firstly,auditory learning style is the most popular among students,followed by visual,individual and kinesthetic learning style,while tactile and group learning styles are in the last place.Secondly,students' autonomous learning of English is generally poor.The survey also found that students had the highest average in understanding teachers' teaching objectives and requirements,and the lowest average in using learning strategies,especially in using communicative strategies in conversation practice.Thirdly,there is a positive correlation between perceptual learning style and autonomous English learning,and the correlation coefficient between auditory learning style and autonomous English learning is the highest.This research not only provides a reference for teachers to improve English learner's autonomy,but also provides some research value for the theory of perceptual learning style and theoretical research on English learner's autonomy.
