This translation report is based on The Oxford Handbook of Law and Politics(Chapters 1 & 2)published by Oxford university press in 2008 and explores features and translation methods of Social Science Texts(hereafter SST)under the guidance of Jef Verschueren's Adaptation Theory. In this report, with the aid of the features of SST,the author analyzes certain difficulties and feasible methods applicable to the E-C translation in terms of the contextual adaptability, the structural adaptability, and the dynamics of adaptability under the guidance of Adaptation Theory. The report summarizes that proper SST translation methods should be adopted considering the specific contexts, different structures between English and Chinese, features and cultural factors of the source text as well as Chinese reader's acceptability to achieve the effect of dynamic adaptation. The SST translation methods frequently exploited in the translation task are literal translation, free translation, amplification, adding footnotes and adjustment.By summarizing SST translation methods through translation practice, the author aims to provide a reference for the Chinese translators of SST in the future, improves herself translation ability and acceptability of the target text and hopes to promote academic exchange in the fields of law and politics to some extent.
