| Khaled Hosseini,an Afghan-born American writer,published his first and the most well-known novel— The Kite Runner,and earned his reputation.Since its publication in 2003,the novel has drawn great attentions from scholars and readers.This novel has been translated into 55 different languages and released in 70 countries.This thesis intends to explore how The Kite Runner,as a typical Bildungsroman,makes a good use of the literary genre—Bildungsroman to show the process of growth of the protagonist.According to Rui Yuping’s views about Bildungsroman,this thesis analyzes The Kite Runner from the perspectives of characters,structures and contents.First,the thesis uses the theories of spiritual guides and initiation companions to introduce the major characters in the process of Amir’s growth.Second,the thesis also briefly explores how the typical pattern of Bildungsroman plot in the novel successfully illustrates the protagonist’s growth.Third,based on the theory of“identity”,this paper highlights the themes of the novel.With the interpretation and analysis concerning this novel,the conclusion can be drawn that the novel The Kite Runner meets the requirements of Bildungsroman and can be regarded as a typical one of this genre.In addition,this thesis enriches the studies of the novel and enlarges the research field of the Bildungsroman.What’s more,this thesis gives a new understanding of The Kite Runner to the readers and encourages them to seek the beauty of humanity.The growing process of Amir has a profound influence on all the youths who are trapped in confusions. |
