| Climate and weather are closely related to human life and production.Extreme weather events exert far-reaching influence on human beings.Therefore,it is of great significance for human beings to acquire knowledge of meteorology.The translation material for this translation report is extracted from A Student Guide to Climate and Weather,a book written by Angus M.Gunn with the aim to disseminate meteorological knowledge to specific readership.The translator translates the first three chapters of volume 3,which will help people know about meteorological knowledge on the Indian monsoon,Asian famines and floods,Bay of Bengal cyclones,as well as their impacts on human lives.During the translation process,different kinds of adverbial clauses have posed obstacles to the translator.How to tackle this problem is what this translation report would discuss.Based on the literature review,the translator finds that a lot of researches on the use of Newmark’s communicative translation in the translation has been done.However,little attention has been paid to translation methods for adverbial clauses from the perspective of the communicative translation.Therefore,the translator endeavors to explore translation methods for adverbial clauses based on the communicative translation.The report is composed of five chapters.Chapter One is a description of translation project,which introduces the source text for the translation project and the translation process.Chapter Two discusses the communicative translation and its significance to the source text.Chapter Three defines adverbial clauses,analyzes the characteristics of the adverbial clause in the original text and gives a literature review about the translation of adverbial clauses.Chapter Four is the case study,in which the translator exemplifies translation methods for adverbial clauses from the perspective of the communicative translation.Chapter Five is a summary,which presents findings and limitations of the report. |
