| The adverbial clauses of concession are very common in English learning.In high school,the adverbial clause of concession always appear in English text reading.And the translation of adverbial clause of concession is not only a key point,but also a difficult one in English learning.But so far,there were few empirical study concerned with the adverbial clause of concession,not to mention the translation acquisition of the adverbial clause of concession of high school students in China.As a result,it is very necessary to conduct this research.This text bases on the Constructivism Learning Theory,and the author adopts experimental methods to conduct this empirical research.It focuses on the following two questions: 1,What are main obstacles in the process of English adverbial clause translation of concession for experimental subjects in high school? 2,Can the Conversion Approach improve students’ ability of translating the adverbial clause of concession? The experimental subjects are students from class 3,5 in Senior 2,Changzhou LJ Senior High School.Class 5 was designed as the control class,taught with conventional teaching methods of the adverbial clause of concession.Class 3 was regarded as the experimental class,taught with the Conversion Approach in high school English teaching.34 students in each class participated the experiment.Moreover,the think-aloud protocol was used to delve into the status quo of translation acquisition of the adverbial clause concession of high school students.The study took about 10 weeks,and it used three kinds of research tools.One is the examination results of the translation of adverbial clauses of concession before the experiment and the examination results of the translation of adverbial clauses of concession after the experiment.The examination questions were chosen from past ten years’ original college entrance examination of Jiangsu province.The question type was to translate independent clauses of the English adverbial clause of concession,and the test paper had twenty questions.The second research tool is the software of SPSS25.0.The last one is the software of Microsoft.The study shows that: high school students encounter many obstacles in analyzing language structures,extracting semantics,restructuring information and presenting translations in the process of the translation acquisition of the adverbial clause of concession.Compared with the conventional translation teaching,the Conversion Approach can enhance students’ ability of English translation and the level of sub-skills of their translation competence.Besides,after the teaching of Conversion Approach,The all-around ability of students has been improved significantly,and students’ learning confidence has also been enhanced.However,the effect that Conversion Approach produces on students’ competence of analyzing language structures is not greater than the effect that Conventional Teaching Approach produces on students’ competence of analyzing language structures.This is due to the fact that Constructivism Learning Theory emphasizes that learning is an active process of constructing between new and old knowledge,and this kind of process is flexible.In the experimental teaching,students pay more attention to the fluency and flexibility of translation and neglect the language structure analysis.The study enlightens that: the Conversion Approach has a good effect in improving students’ translation skills and comprehensive ability as well.Meanwhile,students’ learning confidence has been enhanced.But due to the short teaching duration and the single test method of this experiment,there is still much for further research in this study. |
