This report is based on the author's translation of first four chapters of Principles of Generative Phonology by John T.Jensen.The book is intended as a basic, thorough introduction to contemporary phonological theory and practice and its publication in 2004 definitely leaves a profound impact on further researchers.Up to the present, there is no Chinese version available yet.Consequently, the author conducts the translation process and analyzes the pronoun transformation in the translation process. The present translation report is composed of five chapters.Chapter 1 represents a brief introduction to the translation task, the chosen book and its authors.Chapter 2 focuses on translation preparation, more specifically, making the translation plan and collecting relevant references.Chapter 3 mainly describes the translation process, including the analysis of the source text and proofreading after translation.A comparison between pronouns in source language and target language is also made in this chapter.Chapter 4,with its focus on case studies,is the most important component limiting the report attention to the analysis of pronoun transformation between source language and target language.Chapter 5 sums up the whole task.It is sincerely hoped that this report would present the translation process of the academic book Principles of Generative Phonology, would investigate the pronoun transformations between English and Chinese occurred in the book, and would provide experience for other translators or researchers in academic texts or pronouns.
