This is a report on the translation of the first twelve sections of an English historical novel,The King's Curse. The novel depicts the British royal life during the Plantagenet dynasty and the Tudor dynasty from the perspective of Margaret Pole,a descendant of the Plantagenet family.Under the guidance of Katharina Reiss' text typology and Tytler's three translation laws, this report analyzes some typical examples at lexical, syntactic and textual levels, and illustrates how the translator adopts a variety of translation methods and techniques to solve translation problems.According to Reiss' text typology,The King's Curse is both an expressive text and an informative text. The translator, therefore, should convey the information completely and display literary features of the novel.According to Tytler's three translation laws, the translation should give a complete transcript of the ideas of the original text, maintain the style and manner of the original text and have all the ease of the original composition.Based on these two theories, this report discusses the translation methods and techniques adopted in the translation practice,in the hope of providing inspiration for future studies in translating English historical novels.Through the translation practice, the translator has a deeper understanding of both translation theories and translation methods and techniques. Moreover, the translator's translation abilities have improved through the translation task. The report consists of five parts.Chapter One describes the translation task.Chapter Two describes the translation process.Chapter Three introduces the theoretical basis, including an introduction to Reiss' text typology and Tytler's three translation laws, and their guidance on the translation.Chapter Four is case study.Chapter Five summarizes reflections and limitations of the report.
