This English-Chinese translation practice report takes the short story Face as the source text, which is extracted from Alice Munro' s collection of short stories Too Much Happiness(2009).Face focuses on the confusion, troubles and various complex relationships concerning woman's real life and spiritual life, criticizing the inequality between men and women in their real life. Therefore, translating this type of text has certain practical significance. The translation practice report includes four parts, namely introduction, translation process, case study and conclusion. The original text contains a large number of compound words, adjectives and complex sentences, which greatly increases the difficulties of translation. Therefore, the author uses the method of conversion to deal with compound words, the method of Four-Character Structures to translate adjectives, the method of addition and combination to cope with complex sentences, which greatly reduce the difficulties of translation, improving the readability of the translated text.In terms of lexical level, the compounds in the original text are intuitive, vivid and the amount of information carried in them is considerable.Translating them by the method of conversion can fully interpret their intrinsic meaning. As for adjectives, translating them into Four-Character Structures enhances the appeal of sentences and makes the sentences concise and tidy and profoundly highlights the key points. At the syntactic level, the original text has a large number of long sentences with parentheses and the structures of sentences are complex. The author translates them by the method of combination to make long sentences simplified in Chinese short sentences. Thus, the logical relationship of the sentences is smoother and the translated text is more suitable to the Chinese reading habit. For the ellipsis and the no-subject sentences, the author applies the method of addition to fully express the meaning of the sentences by filling in underlying content. The report connotes that,in Alice Munro' short story Face, there exists multiple compound words, adjectives as well as complex sentences. Not only should the author analyze the content of the original text, but also pay much attention to the differences between Chinese and English expressions, and then use appropriate methods to make the translations more suitable to the needs of the readers of the target language. The overall translation quality needs to be improved, but it has its own characteristics in the translation of compound words, adjectives, and complex sentences;it is hoped that this report can provide references for pertinent translations and studies.
