An E-C Translation Report Of Our Gang(Chapter 1 To 3)

Nowadays,more and more foreign literature works,including the satire literature works,have been introduced into China.The excellent translations of satire literary works provide important guidance for the growth of teenagers.This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of a satiric novel,Our Gang.The author selects the former Chapter One-Three as the source text for the translation project,namely,Tricky Comforts a Troubled Citizen,Tricky Holds a Press Conference and Tricky Has Another Crisis;or,The Skull Session.The language of the novel is satiric and humorous,which reflects the dark side of the political society of America in another way.Consisting of three parts,this report is mainly about the translation process,namely preparations of the translation,the analysis of the translation and the polish of it.Firstly,the translator downloads and analyzes many papers on the translation of satiric novels from the Internet and looks through many books about translation theories in the library.While doing the above work,the translator translates the novel with organized translation skills in the translation of satiric novels in mind,and finishes the draft of the report with help of the notes.When confronted with difficult sentences or expressions,the translator would mark them and analyze them with corresponding translation strategies.Among these sentences and expressions,the translator selects many typical sentences to talk about in this report.At last,some useful skills are recorded in the translation report in the translation of satiric novels.In this report,the translator puts forward two kinds of difficulties in the translation,lexical ones and syntactic ones.Lexical difficulties include difficulties in translating nouns and,difficulties in translating the proper nouns and difficulties in choosing appropriate word meanings.While translating the source text,the translator finds it difficult to express some specific meanings of the oral expression.So the translator adopted a chart and filled it with the original words and their translated meanings.Syntactic difficulties in translating include difficulties in translating the attributive clauses,difficulties in translating English long sentences and difficulties in ensuring the style of satiric literature.During the translating process the translator learnt that the ironic characters in the drama are not clear about the embarrassing situation is a method to ensure the satire style.
