At the beginning of the 20 th century,Paris was a city full of fierce competition and challenges.Prior to this time, the art circle held traditional social view which was dominated by male chauvinism, while female artists were placed on the edge of orthodox art history records. The birth of Suzanne Valadon’s painting broke this traditional pattern. She was a peculiar female painter, who was one of the forerunners of French art activities in the early 20 th century, while the most majoriy of them are men.She broke into the French art scene from her humble status through personal efforts. Her identity as a female artist and her unique artistic works made her stand out from the crowd. With the original intention of returning to gaze, she attached great importance to the social identity of female artists, aroused women’s attention to self-ontology,promoted the strength and charm of female painting, and formed an independent artistic thought.Starting from the professional perspective of female painting, she had formed a strong contrast with the nude art painted by male painters, calling out the significance and social value of female life to the world from the standpoint of women. This paper is a case study.Starting from the painting itself,it studies and sums up its painting themes, focuses on its nude figure painting, which has the most obvious painting characteristics and with the largest number, analyzes the painting language characteristics of its outer contour line, color and composition, and illustrates Valadon’s achievements in "nude figure painting" through vertical and horizontal comparison.Suzanne Valadon’s figure painting breaks through the traditional visual arts. Her figure painting is mainly based on real emotion and actual self-experience.Her painting language is distinctive and her technique features have many similarities with post-impressionism.Her painting style has inspired and influenced many artists of later generations. While affirming its value and historical significance, the paper also analyzes the reasons behind its "masculinity" painting, studies and analyzes the phenomenon of Suzanne Valadon in the overall environment of French art in the early 20 th century. The focus is on the revelation and expression of the "frank" and "doughty" painting characteristics in her figure painting creation,so as to achieve the overall interpretationand positioning of Valadon’s painting art.
