Dong Zhongshu And The Mainstream Ideology Of Han Dynasty

Dong Zhongshu proposed in his "three policies of heaven and man" with Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty that "all the subjects that are not in the six arts,and all the masters of Confucius are unique in their own ways,so as not to advance together",which opened the prelude of "respecting Confucianism alone" and the establishment of the mainstream ideology of Han Dynasty.This paper combs the construction and choice of ideology since the beginning of Han Dynasty,in order to discuss the advantages and details that Confucianism can become the orthodox thought of Han Dynasty.And through the discussion of Dong Zhongshu's systematic ideological system based on the slogan and background of "respecting Confucianism alone",we can prove the inevitability of how Confucianism can become the mainstream ideology of Han Dynasty.Dong Zhongshu's "exclusive respect for Confucianism" is a sign of the establishment of ideology in the Han Dynasty.Its purpose is to solve the practical need of the social unification that the rulers of the Han Dynasty urgently need to achieve.After the transformation of the Confucians in the Han Dynasty,especially Dong Zhongshu,the Confucians established a set of ultimate basis of Confucianism with heaven as the ultimate basis.From the height of heaven,they demonstrated the rationality of the reign of the emperor of the Han Dynasty and maintained its dominant position.By absorbing the thoughts of Taoism,Legalism and yin-yang school,Confucianism has great inclusiveness and is different from the idealization of pre Qin Confucianism,which is more needed by feudal rulers.But Dong Zhongshu's theory is not only for the feudal monarch,but also to protect the basic needs of ordinary people,so as to ensure the stable development of the whole society and the long-term stability of the country.The first part is the first chapter of the ideology and ideological transformation of the Han Dynasty.This chapter mainly talks about the ideological background of Confucianism and the choice of ideology in Han Dynasty.At the beginning of Han Dynasty,Huang Lao thought was the leading thought,but it could not adapt to the speed of the development of Han Dynasty,resulting in the disadvantages that the rulers of Han Dynasty had to think about new ruling thoughts.The only thing that can compete withHuang Lao's theory is Confucianism.Through the integration of Huang Lao thought and other thoughts and theories,Confucianism constantly absorbs new blood and carries out transformation,which lays the foundation for Dong Zhongshu's "exclusive respect for Confucianism",and promotes the rise of Confucianism in an all-round way.The second chapter is the second part,Dong Zhongshu's "exclusive respect for Confucianism" on the construction of the ideology of the Han Dynasty.Dong Zhongshu established the system of heaven and man,realized the aim of Confucianism from theory to practice,from respecting the monarch to benefiting the people,and proved the necessity of "respecting Confucianism alone" to establish the ruling thought of Han Dynasty.From the "one and the same" of yin and Yang in the sky,we can get the governance strategy of "Yang respecting Yin inferiority" and "morality dominating punishment complementing" and the value of "justice not seeking profit",so as to see Dong Zhongshu's "exclusive respect for Confucianism" in the construction of the orthodox thought of the Han Dynasty.The third chapter is the establishment of the mainstream ideology of Han Dynasty.It mainly expounds the internal value and influence of the unity of thought itself and the influence on the ideology of Han Dynasty and the later generations under the "exclusive respect for Confucianism".This paper summarizes a series of suggestions and measures of Dong Zhongshu's "exclusive respect for Confucianism" in order to demonstrate the internal relationship between "exclusive respect for Confucianism" and the establishment of the mainstream ideology of the Han Dynasty,and then concludes that "exclusive respect for Confucianism" is the symbol of Confucianism's dominance of the mainstream ideology of the Han Dynasty.Through the discussion of Dong Zhongshu's thought system under the "exclusive respect for Confucianism",this paper aims to demonstrate the internal mechanism path of "exclusive respect for Confucianism" to promote Confucianism to become the mainstream ideology of Han Dynasty.
