Yang Cunzhong was a military commander who grew up in the early Southern Song Dynasty.Yang Cunzhong was born in a military home in the Northwest.Under the influence of the times and the strong local military style,his grandfather Yang Zongmin opened the Yang’s army and fought for a long time on the front line of war against Xixia.Under the influence of his father,Yang Zhen,father of Yang Cunzhong,also stepped into military service and participated in a series of important military operations in the late Northern Song Dynasty.Under the influence of his father and ancestor,Yang Cunzhong also embarked on the path of joining the army and made great contributions to the construction of the Southern Song Dynasty.Yang Cunzhong’s life revolved around the political and military activities of the early Southern Song Dynasty.When Emperor of Song Dynasty named Zhao Gou first built the Grand Marshal’s House,Yang Cunzhong joined the guard.Subsequently,it emerged in important military activities in the early Southern Song Dynasty,including the defeat of Li Cheng,the creation of the "Three Governments",and the Battle of Song and Jin.After the peace talks in Shaoxing,Yang Cunzhong stayed in high position due to his relationship with Qin Hui and Zhao Gou.In the last year of Shaoxing,when Wan Yanliang invaded Song vigorously,Yang Cunzhong stabilized the Southern Song army with his prestige and repulsed the Jin people’s attack.Therefore,research on Yang Cunzhong is more helpful for understanding the role played by military commanders of the Southern Song Dynasty in military and political activities.
