The important goal of language learning is to make students communicate effectively.However,ethnic middle school students are reluctant to speak English in English class.In the multi-ethnic areas,it is a common phenomenon that many ethnic middle school students are not willing to speak English.In English learning,there are many reasons why ethnic middle school students are not willing to speak English.There are twenty-five ethnic groups in Yunnan Province,In the multi-ethnic minority counties,such as Gongshan,Yunlong and Gengma.Ethnic middle school students account for the majority.Ethnic middle school students have become a focus of the research.However,numerous studies of WTC in English have been conducted,few are of ethnic middle school students,so the present research focuses on ethnic middle school students' WTC in English.Based on the reasons above,research issues in this paper are listed as follows:(1)What is the basic situation of minority middle school students' willingness to communicate in English among six ethnic groups? Do ethnic minority middle school students have different intentions to communicate in English class?(2)What factors influence ethnic middle school students' WTC in English class?In the study,six ethnic groups,which are Zang ethnic,Du Long ethnic,Nu ethnic,Li Su ethnic,Dai ethnic,and Bai ethnic are selected in Yunnan Province.Zang ethnic students and Nu ethnic students are from Bing Zhongluo Middle School,Li Su ethnic students are from No.3 Middle School,Du Long ethnic students are from Dulong Jiang Central School in Gongshan County.Dai ethnic students are from Gengma Middle School in Lingcang,and Bai ethnic students are from Baofeng Middle School inYunlong.192 ethnic middle school students who are in Grade Nine,they are treated as subjects.When analyzing the problem,the data used by the author comes from a questionnaire survey,and the research results come from the content of the interview with the assistance of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS version 19.0).Then the researcher can conclude the general situation of ethnic middle school students' WTC,and the main reasons for ethnic middle school students having lower WTC in English on them when it comes to students-related factors and teachers-related factors.According to the research,ethnic middle school students' WTC in English is low.Suggestions for teachers and students to improve ethnic middle school students' WTC in English are provided in the thesis.
